NYS DUI/ DWI (Driving Under the Influence/Driving While Intoxicated) Assessment Services
If a person is arrested and charged with a DUI/DWI in New York State, they may be required to receive a mandatory DUI/DWI assessment or valuation for court-ordered alcohol or drug treatment different from the Drinking Driver Program.
These assessments determine the nature and extent of an offender’s alcohol or drug problems. To determine whether an offender has a history or is being dependent on a controlled or alcohol substance, the court may order an evaluation pursuant to Criminal Procedure Law § 216.05(1).
As a certified member of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), we are authorized to conduct DWI assessments. OASAS certifies and monitors the substance abuse evaluators and treatment programs in New York State. If you have been directed to have an assessment, it is important that you do so within the timeframe that has been ordered by presiding court.
